Social organisations of Garia felicitated Professor Pobitra Sarkar, a renowned Philologist of Bengali language. He was awarded at Garia Sreerampur, yesterday , to mark his Honour ‘Order of the Raising Sun’, a citizenship award from Japan.
‘The Order of the Rising Sun’ is a Japanese government’s second highest national honour. It was established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji. Prof. Sarkar is the forth Indian to receive such honour after Mr. Monmohan singh, the ex- prime minister.The tune of the occasion was- Love.
Linguist and grammarian Pabitra Sarkar has been chosen by the imperial Japanese government for its third highest civilian honor. Prof. Sarkar has been chosen for his contribution towards furthering Indo-Japanese friendship through his literary activities, which started way back in 70’s. He has visited Japan many times and worked on projects with the Tokyo University trying to establish linguistic similarities between Bengali and Japanese.
Sri Sarkar, the resident of Garia received the love and respect of the huge gatherings. The internationally acclaimed educationist said in reply that he feels the love when a vegetable seller at market having no knowledge about Sarkar’s work field says-” babu, don’t buy this vegetable today…it’s condition is not such good, it’s not for you’. Pobitra babu confessed that love comes from respect.
His daughter felt emotional while stating her speech and said people of Garia area are spontaneously taking care of his father out of love and respect. Presence of renowned educationists added the grace of the occasion. Debashis Bosu , a well known eloquent read a piece from Tagore that touched the heart of the audience.
