Haruki Murakami asked for his Alternative Nobel Literature Prize nomination to be withdrawn

Amidst the sexual misconduct story that has enshrouded the Nobel Prize for Literature committee, an effort to create an Alternative prize for the same has had now seen one of the most vociferous names in Literature distance himself from it.

Haruki Murakami , the prolific Japanese writer , has asked his name be withdrawn from the list of nominees.

The New Academy Prize in Literature organisers announced his decision on Facebook and quoted him saying that he wanted to “”concentrate on writing, away from media attention”.
It denied to provide any further explanation.

The replacement award was set up by a group of Swedish cultural figures after this year’s Nobel Prize in Literature was postponed following a sexual misconduct scandal at the Swedish Academy.

Celebrated graphic novelist Neil Gaiman is also among the nominees list that includes Maryse Conde and Kim Thuy.
