It’s been a long long wait since Zidane left the club. It was difficult to fill his shoes and the fiasco of lending out Christiano Ronaldo to Juventus happened soon after- leaving the club in shatters.
Then happened the unthinkable as Real got thrashed at the hands of arch rival Barcelona 5-1 as newly appointed Coach Julen Lopetegui could not salvage the massacre at any cost.
It has been exactly 101 days since that humiliating defeat and it was time for Interim coach Santiago Solari to shine forth with decisive changes made to the ranks as playmaker Isco was dropped and Vinicius Junior breathed new life to the left flank.
Lucas Vazquez was the first to taste blood and the equaliser came from the feet of Malcom.
At the press briefing, Vazquez mentioned the regret Real faced at having let go of their grip from Barca’s neck who struggled to keep up and managed to draw the game in the end.
“The result is unfair, we did more in attack to win the game. Maybe we did let Barcelona off lightly in the first half. We made clear chances, we didn’t know how to put them away and ended up drawing.”
A definite goal from Kroos was saved by Gerard Pique and the rest of the match Barcelona was given a run for their money by an evidently improved Real squad.
Solari, though pleased with their performance , thinks that they might have easily snatched victory instead.
