A mild earthquake hit Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) at 04:18 PM on Wednesday. Tremors lasted a few seconds. The tremors were felt across North India, and as per reports, the epicentre was Tajikistan near the Afghanistan border
TV reports said states including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, apart from Delhi, were hit by the earthquake. There were no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property. The earthquake created panic among the people who fled their offices and homes. Earlier in the day, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake jolted northwest Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, injuring at least nine children and causing panic among the residents, news agencies reported.
An official at the meteorological department said the epicentre of the quake was located near the northwestern city of Bannu at a depth of 12 km.
At least nine children were injured in Bannu’s Government Model School near Tankhi Bazaar, said media reports. The earthquake hit Pakistan at 8:25 am and tremors of the quake were also felt in places like Manshera, Dera Ismail Khan, Abbottabad, and Mardan. The tremors were felt for 15 to 20 seconds.
