Cyclone Vayu, a ‘Very Severe Cyclonic Storm’

The IMD said Cyclone Vayu will cross Gujarat coast between Dwarka and Veraval as a ‘very severe cyclonic storm’ with wind speed 155-165 kilometres per hour around Thursday afternoon.

“A total of 1,64,090 people have been evacuated from 10 affected areas till 4 pm,” says Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) . The entire coastline, from Kutch to south Gujarat has been put on “high alert”. Schools and colleges in the coastal districts are closed today and tomorrow. Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday reviewed the preparations for Cyclone Vayu. The Union Home has sent detailed advisories to Gujarat and the Union Territory of Diu.  As many as 40 rescue and relief teams of NDRF have already been position in Gujarat and Diu.

In view of Vayu Cyclone, First evacuation special train will run from Okha at 5.45 p.m. today (12/06/19) for Rajkot. The second evacuation special train will run from Okha at 8.05 p.m. today (12/6/19) for Ahmedabad with 21 coaches.
