Chandi Lahiri, the famous cartoonist of Bengal breath his last yesterday at R.G. Kar Medical College at 1.50 p.m. He has been suffering from respiratory complications and was admitted by his family members on Wednesday as the condition worsened.
He had a career of five decades with his cartoons published in various English and Bengali newspapers and magazines. He was the inventor of the idea ‘pocket cartoons’. He had written books like ‘Cartoon er itibritto (the history of cartoons)’, ‘Scene’s Freedom: a history in cartoons 194
7-1993’ which are the evidences of his great observations and his masterly skills in the profession.
The Bengal CM took to Twitter to share her condolence, “Saddened at the passing away of the eminent artist and cartoonist Chandi Lahiri. May his work continue to engage and entertain. My heartfelt condolences to his family”.
