Baking Soda, the Natural Cleaning Agent

We all know that baking soda is essential or baking but have you ever used t for cleaning? The white powder can do wonders when it comes to cleaning a surface, freshening or deodorizing your house. It is one of the cheapest cleaning solution that anyone can easily afford it in the world. With all the chemicals in common household cleaners, we can’t help but wonder about the toxic residue they leave behind – especially in the kitchen where we prepare our food. Baking soda can be said as the best and cheapest cleaning agent which is chemical free.

Here are few natural cleaning tips that require some baking soda.

1. Clean the Kitchen Sink and Remove all the Dirt and Grease that’s Built Up

Baking soda works  just as well for a sink cleaner as any other product on the market. Just sprinkle some baking soda on the sink of your kitchen and then clean the surface with sponge or a scrubbing brush. First, try a  small portion of the sink and then go for the whole sink so that you are sure of the results. Remember you just have to gently rub the area where you put the baking soda, and within no time you will see all the grease and food build-up vanish from the sink surface. You can even unblock a sink drain with the help of baking soda.

2. Clean Burnt Utensils

The combination of baking soda and vinegar can clean pretty much anything. Here’s how you can use it to clean burnt pots and pans.

Fill the burnt pot or pan with 1 cup of water and 1 cup of vinegar, and bring it to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, remove it from the heat, put it in the sink and add 2 tablespoons of baking soda. The mixture should start to fizz, and once it finishes, empty it out and scrub it with a rough sponge or scouring pad. Add extra baking soda as you scrub for any stubborn spots. Rinse and dry.

3. Deodorize and Freshen Carpets and Rugs

If you have pets and kids in the house then it’s but very obvious that your carpet and rugs are the centers of all the fun activities for them, and well with the activities there are always some chances of a bad odor and dirt on the carpets and the rugs which is why you can again use baking soda here to keep them smelling fresh. All you have to do is to mix a few drops of essential oil with a little baking soda and then apply it on the carpet and the rugs. Leave it there for 20 to 30 minutes and then vacuum the surface.

4. Deodorize and Freshen Garbage Cans

Garbage cans always smell bad even if you take out the garbage every single day. Now to keep them smelling fresh, all you have to do is to mix some baking soda with any of your favorite essential oils and then apply it to the base of the trash can. You don’t have to clean the baking soda then, in fact, you just have to leave it there and then replace it after every two weeks.

5. Clean the Crayon Marks from the Walls

Kids just love to write on the walls with pens, markers, and crayons especially when you are looking around and well this can be some serious pain for you especially if you just got your walls painted. But don’t worry because baking soda can even help you here. Take a wet cloth and then put some baking soda on it and then rub that cloth on the wall gently and you will see that all the crayon marks will disappear.
