The Pune city unit of Sambhaji Brigade decided to get its name listed in the never growing bandwagon of emeritus citizens of India who arenow a part of a mass change of name of cities throughout the country.
First Mughalsarai, Allahabad and now Pune.
Sambhaji Brigade has demanded to the Maharashtrian Government that Pune be renamed to Jijapur. The brigade has issued a letter elucidating the demand to the state government and has requested immediate action on their proposal.
“We support Shiv Sena’s demand on changing names of Aurangabad and Osmanabad to Sambhaji Nagar and Dharashiv. We want to extend this demand to Pune and want it to be called Jijapur.”
-Santosh Shinde, Pune district president of Sambhaji Brigade
Jijamata was Shivaji’s mother and this is yet another evident tactic to play on the Maratha sentiment to hoist the regional politics of Shiv Sena.
The name-changing trend for cities, towns and regions was started by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He renamed Allahabad to Prayagraj and recently announced the rechristening of Faizabad as Ayodhya.
